While the US president continues to lie to his people about imagined victories over Iran in West Asia, the arguments fall flat amongst the vast majority of Americans who see through his tired rhetoric. Unlike past military blunders, Washington has not and will not be able to pull the wool over its people's eyes.

Some analysts have attempted to compare Donald Trump’s failure to effectively combat Iran with defeats and strategic mistakes that ruined the reputations of past presidents; this one is very different.

To go through all US wars of aggression is simply too steep a task to take on in a single article, but there are a few different comparisons that are going around which deserve to be analyzed: they are the Iraq War, the Vietnam War, and even Operation Eagle Claw.

All the above-noted comparisons are very much different in their nature from the large-scale air campaign, turned stop-start battles that the Trump administration has engaged in. If we first look at the Vietnam War comparison, this is often said as a figure of speech - “it is so and so’s Vietnam” - which is the way in which some analysts have chosen to apply Vietnam to what we see today. 

Although there is something to be said about how the US is being bogged down in the Iran War, it is a totally different ball game to what occurred in Vietnam. At the beginning stages of the escalation, in October of 1965, a Gallup poll recorded a 64% public approval rating of US intervention in Vietnam, which by 1970 had shifted to around 55% of the US public stating that they sought a return of the troops. Footage from an unreleased documentary about the late Lindsey Graham shows the notoriously hawkish senator celebrating the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran just days after the bombing campaign started.

“Look what we’ve done here. I almost cried. How long have we been pushing this?” a laughing Graham is heard saying in the footage, released by Alex Holder, a filmmaker granted extensive access to the South Carolina senator in the years leading up to his death.

Graham goes on to say that he spoke with President Trump, who he said was also very happy about the war. “I talked to Trump this morning, he’s jacked, he said, ‘best thing I have ever done.’ He loves blowing stuff up,” he said.

Graham then appeared to take credit for helping convince Trump to launch the war. “There are a lot of people inside who didn’t want to do it, so I had my challenges,” he said, adding that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were like “Roosevelt and Churchill.” [MORE]

From [HERE] With a key amendment to a 2027 spending bill expected to come up for a vote in the US House of Representatives in the coming days, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had what one organizer called “a real opportunity... to show he’s listening” to the Democratic Party’s base and its growing disapproval of US military aid for Israel.

But on Tuesday, progressive advocates said Jeffries (D-NY) had squandered that opportunity by announcing in a Dear Colleague letter that he would oppose the amendment put forward by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), which would eliminate the $3.3 billion the US provides to Israel’s military annually.

Last month, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.)—who was detained by armed Israeli settlers in the West Bank this week—urged his colleagues to back the amendment, calling US support for Israel “the moral test of our time” as he stood in front of a memorial for 20,000 children killed by the Israeli military in Gaza.

In the letter and at a caucus meeting Tuesday morning, Jeffries claimed the amendment was “overly broad” and could limit funds for humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, and other operations.

He also asserted that the funding cut would restrict the United States’ ability to “confront Hamas.”

The US government, under both the Biden and Trump administrations, has relentlessly claimed that Israel’s US-backed assault on Gaza that began in 2023 has targeted Hamas, even as refugee camps, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, aid workers, and children have been targeted by the Israel Defense Forces and as Israel has concurrently ramped up violent efforts to annex the West Bank.

A ceasefire in Gaza was reached in October 2025, but more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since the deal was signed. In all, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed.

As the US has continued to give material and political support to Israel, approval of the military aid and the Israeli government has plummeted among the American public.

More than half of Democratic voters said in an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll last week that they believed the US-backed military operation amounted to a genocide.

A Quinnipiac University poll found last August that three-quarters of Democratic voters and 60% of all voters supported suspending US weapons aid to Israel. [MORE]

With the Approval of Israeli Authorities Waves of Settler Attacks Target Defenseless Palestinian, Mosques, Homes and Businesses Across West Bank

From [HERE] Israeli settlers on Sunday launched a series of widespread attacks across the West Bank, setting on fire two mosques in Nablus and Tulkarm and damaging heavy equipment at an industrial facility near Ramallah.

Eyewitnesses told Middle East Eye that settlers also raided several towns and villages, attacked homes, destroyed vehicles and fired live ammunition to terrorise residents.

The attacks targeted communities in the governorates of Nablus, Tulkarm, Ramallah, Hebron, Salfit, Qalqilya, Jericho and Jerusalem, according to Palestinian officials who said settlers were acting under the protection of Israeli forces.

In the village of Qusra, south of Nablus, Israeli settlers burned large parts of the al-Rahma mosque and spray-painted racist slogans in Hebrew on its walls.

Activist Abdul-Azim Wadi, from the village, told MEE that he received a call at 2:30 am informing him that settlers had burned the mosque, located in the southwestern part of the village. 

Wadi said that he, along with several other residents, went to the scene to extinguish the flames.

The mosque was scheduled to open in the coming days. The residents of Qusra had painted its walls and carpeted it the previous day, but the fire caused extensive damage, including partial collapse of some of its walls, he said. 

Wadi said that slogans such as "Israel will be established with blood" and "Mosques will not frighten us" were written on the walls, in addition to messages that indicated that the arson was in revenge for the settlers killed in Tell. 

“Neighbours of the mosque saw the settlers leaving the area before the residents arrived to extinguish the fire. We also found three slogans they had written on the outer walls," the activist said. [MORE]

Many were killed, and hundreds were injured by Israeli occupation fire and transferred to hospitals across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, Gaza's Health Ministry reported, as the genocide of Palestinians continues unabated. 

In an Israeli occupation drone strike near the bridge of al-Qarara town, north of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, several people were injured, some of them reportedly in critical condition. The Israeli occupation also shelled areas south of Khan Younis.

The attacks come as the Israeli occupation continues its assaults on the Gaza Strip in violation of the "ceasefire" agreement reached in October 2025. The ongoing violations have resulted in the martyrdom of 1,203 Palestinians and the injury of 3,900 others.

Systemic targeting of Gaza's healthcare sector

Amid the continued aggression and siege, Gaza's Health Ministry warned that the countdown has begun for the suspension of transport buses carrying medical staff and patients, which could occur within days due to a severe depletion of essential operating supplies.

The ministry cautioned that the suspension of transport services would bring medical personnel's access to hospitals to a complete standstill, while preventing patients from reaching the care they urgently need. [MORE]

From [HERE] A Baltimore judge entered a $4.17 million judgment Tuesday in favor of a class of over tenants who were charged illegal fees by the property management wing of Kushner Cos., the development group co-owned by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.

Partially granting the class’s motion for summary judgment, Circuit Judge Paul J. Cucuzzella found the firm, Westminster Management, was liable for violating Maryland’s cap on late rent payment fees and breaching the terms of its leases.

The parties are still slated to go to trial over a few relatively small issues, such as the exact amount of interest owed. But Tuesday’s ruling resolved the “vast majority” of the dispute after nearly nine years in court, and the plaintiffs’ legal team is looking forward to getting those funds back in the hands of the tenants, said Matt Hill, a managing attorney at the Public Justice Center and co-counsel for the class.

Spokespeople for Kushner Cos. did not immediately return a request for comment.

The real estate business’ ownership split between its founder, family patriarch and current United States Ambassador to France and Monaco Charles Kushner, his wife, and their four children. The eldest, Jared, is married to Ivanka Trump and has held various official and informal roles in the White House roles during her father’s presidencies, currently as a special peace envoy. He was the CEO of the family real estate business for about a decade.

The plaintiffs had accused Westminster Management of engaging in a scheme in which the firm charged tenants at 17 Maryland apartment complexes late fees in excess of the 5% limit set by state law. It designated those fees as “rent” in its leases and misapplied tenants’ payments to claim that rent was still due, obtain a faster eviction and pressure tenants to pay, the class said.

In a statement, lead plaintiff Tenae Smith called Tuesday’s ruling a “monumental step” in the lengthy span of litigation. The class plaintiffs are represented in court by attorneys from Baltimore law firm Brown Goldstein & Levy LLP; Timonium-based Santoni, Vocci & Ortega LLC; and the nonprofit Public Justice Center. The defendants have been represented by lawyers from national law firms including Baker Donelson and Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. [MORE]

Ben Crump says the Cop Who Murdered Corey Ruiz Should Face Criminal Charges

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, retained by the family of Corey Ruiz, said in a statement Thursday that the Wisconsin police officer who fatally shot Ruiz should face criminal charges. Crump characterized the killing as an unjustified use of excessive force, saying Ruiz “was tased, taken to the ground, and then he was shot multiple times at close range, including in his face.”

A Madison police officer fatally shot Ruiz, 38, on Wednesday afternoon during an attempted arrest at a busy intersection. Four Madison Police Department (MPD) officers apparently responded to a report of a person checking parked vehicles. The police report says Ruiz fled on a bicycle, and a chase followed. It then claims Ruiz produced a fixed-blade knife that injured one officer, who then fired three shots. However, Crump stated that bystander footage reviewed by his office shows that the officers appeared to have tased and brought Ruiz to the ground before the shooter opened fire. All four officers have been placed on administrative leave, and the shooting officer has not been publicly identified.

Crump called on authorities to preserve and publicly release all footage of the encounter, including squad-car and bystander video. He also called for an examination as to whether deadly force was justified while Ruiz was on the ground. In a press conference with Ruiz’s family, Crump stated: “People all over America are shocked when they see the execution of Corey Ruiz, because they understand .. it was so unnecessary to execute him.” Ruiz’s mother, Elsa Ruiz, visibly shaken, recalled, “My son was an exceptional guy; he was my love. He loved his daughter [and] his family. He did not deserve to be taken out like that.” Ruiz’s daughter, Kah’liyah Ruiz, 13, also spoke out: “My heart [is] just so broken, and it just hurts so much knowing I can’t see my father anymore.” [MORE]

There are moments in history when a system appears so complete that it becomes difficult to imagine its end. When Britannia “ruled the waves,” it was thought in large parts of the world that sterling was not merely a currency but the natural language of commerce itself. 

Since the mid-twentieth century, the United States has spoken of the U.S. dollar in much the same way. Writing in 1980, amid the crisis of the post-Bretton Woods order, the Argentine economist Raúl Prebisch observed that “in the United States the illusion of the almighty dollar held sway.” By then, however, this was not only a U.S. illusion. The dollar had already become the world’s principal reserve currency and the dominant currency of international trade.

Now that illusion has begun, slowly and unevenly, to fray.

Tricontinental‘s latest dossier, “The Architecture of Power: The Dollar, Financialisation, and the Struggle for Sovereignty,” shows that the dollar is not merely money but an institution of imperialist power. The dollar system organises trade, determines access to credit, disciplines governments, finances war and reproduces a hierarchy between the Global North and the Global South.
