Bogus Terror alert in Cincinnati angers Mayor

Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken is demanding a report detailing why Police Chief Thomas Streicher Jr. issued a terrorism alert to the public Thursday without first getting input from federal officials. Before Streicher issues another alert in the future, Luken also is ordering that the chief inform him about the decision. In a letter e-mailed to thousands of businesses and schools, Streicher joined Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis Jr. in asking people to be vigilant to notice any suspicious activity and report it to the authorities. Anyone noticing anything strange was told to call Cincinnati police, the sheriff's organized crime division or Hamilton County's Terrorism Early Warning Group. But the FBI coordinates information on possible terrorist threats. Calls from the public should be made to the bureau, which also decides on when to issue a terror alert, an FBI spokesman said.
