Michigan US Rep. John Conyers' primary opponent drops out

AP A Detroit minister and political activist says he is dropping out of a Democratic primary campaign against veteran Congressman John Conyers.  The Rev. Horace Sheffield III says he originally filed petitions to run against Conyers because he was told the congressman was having difficulty collecting enough signatures to get on the ballot. Sheffield says he and Conyers reached a joint decision that it's in the best interest of Detroit and the congressional district that he withdraws and supports the congressman. Conyers is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and has served in Congress since 1964. Conyers appeared at a news conference Friday with Sheffield but declined comment.
