After a License Plate Traffic Stop, Attorney says Milwaukee Cops Screamed at a Black Man when He Told Them He Lawfully Possessed a Firearm. 3 White Cops Then Beat Him in the Street, Causing Injury
/Police In Liberal Cities Continue to Dominate Blacks With Bullshit Traffic Stops & Gun Possession Arrests. A Black man’s family is calling for accountability after they said Milwaukee police used excessive force during an arrest.
According to civil rights attorney B'Ivory LaMarr, 24-year-old Nicholas Beamon was struck multiple times in the head during an arrest on Oct. 8. He said Beamon has severe injuries.
"What we've seen on this video is just appalling. I believe that this was a clear abuse of force. I believe that the force was excessive. I believe it was unconstitutional," LaMarr said. "He has been to the emergency room twice, and that he will be following up with specialists as it relates to what he succumbed to back on Oct. 8."
Milwaukee police said they initially pulled the vehicle over for a "license plate violation" near Palmer Street and Keefe Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8.
Police claimed, in an email to WISN 12 News, two of the vehicle's passengers (not the driver) who were both female were uncooperative and refused to identify themselves. Police also said Beamon had a firearm in his front sweatshirt pocket and "officers attempted to engage in dialogue with that subject to advise him that he was being detained for the safety of the officers on scene."
LaMarr said Beamon had the gun legally and alerted police he had the firearm.
"It's my understanding that Nicholas declared to the officers that he did have the firearm," LaMarr said. "He's the one that told them, which their response was, they started screaming about a firearm."
In video obtained by WISN 12 News, you can see an officer searching the front pockets of Beamon's sweatshirt as Beamon begins to turn. Seconds later is when Beamon and the officers are on the ground and a third officer appears to strike him repeatedly.
Police said any charges for the three individuals taken into custody will be referred to the district attorney.
LaMarr said the use of force in this situation was unjustified.
"Obviously this family seeks accountability. You know, the police department often speaks immediately following many situations that occur in the city. And we would expect the same in this situation," LaMarr said. "We would expect that the body camera footage be released immediately. I don't see that there's any reason to delay the entirety of the body camera footage to be released. I think that will provide a quick assessment as to really what took place as it relates to bringing the occupants out of this vehicle. We think that what happened here was excessive; it was unconstitutional."
