Border Patrol shooting probed

At least one Border Patrol agent fired into a minivan loaded with suspected illegal immigrants Monday night after the driver ran over his foot to try to elude arrest, authorities said yesterday. Investigators had not determined how many agents fired or the number of rounds discharged when the agents confronted the occupants of the van at Spinel and Mollison avenues about 9:30 p.m., Border Patrol spokesman Richard Kite said. The van sped west and, after a short pursuit, crashed at Grossmont High School, damaging a classroom at the campus on Murray Drive, El Cajon police and school authorities said. Authorities arrested several suspected illegal immigrants, including a man who had been shot in the leg, during an hour-long search of the campus, El Cajon police said. [more ]
