Ohio GOP Secretary of State Blackwell's Lame Attempt at Electoral Levity
Kenneth Blackwell's recent and continued sojourn down comedy lane regarding his personal edicts on how the votes of Ohioans will or will not count on election day has offered all of us throughout the State and country some much needed comedic relief. First, Blackwell laughingly rules that completed registration forms were invalid because they were not on postcard-weight (80 pound) paper despite the fact that at the same time his office was using 20 pound paper (about $4.00 a ream at your local Staples store) for the same registration forms. After correctly being mocked and pilloried by the press for his inept attempt at levity, Blackwell was forced to change course and accept completed registration forms on paper stock that was less than 80 pounds. Not satisfied with making himself and the State of Ohio the laughing stock (pun intended) of the nation with his weighty 80 pound ruling, Blackwell then went about targeting himself for more laughter and criticism by declaring that provisional votes would not be counted if a vote was cast in the wrong precinct (i.e., school or firehouse) even though it was the correct resident county. In an effort to cement his status as a underachiever in the world of standup comedy (I know John Stewart, and you're no John Stewart Mr. Blackwell) and after being again pilloried by the press and having his ruling overturned by a Federal Judge in Toledo, Blackwell then capitulated and proposed allowing voters in the wrong precinct to vote, but said the state would not count it.
