Riverside Sheriff's Dept. accused of Targeting Latinos for Deportation

Some serious charges of racial profiling are being leveled against the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. A new lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a Mexican immigrant arrested twice by deputies. The suit claims the sheriff's department targets undocumented immigrants in the county and works to deport them. It all started with this controversial home video. It shows Francisco Padilla being arrested last year by Riverside County Sheriff's deputies in Temecula. Soon after it was shot, Padilla's attorney, Luis Carrillo, filed an excessive force lawsuit. He claims the deputy in the home video, Alex Todd, punched his client, an undocumented Mexican worker. Now a year later, Carrillo is filing a new lawsuit claiming the Riverside County Sheriff's Department specifically targets undocumented immigrants for deportation."The county has a practice, policy where they utilize racial profiling to stop Latinos." Carrillo claims deputies routinely roam the back roads of the county looking for undocumented immigrants to pull over and deport. [more ] and [more ]
