Ohio's Right to Collect Prisoner DNA Challenged

The suit calls for Ohio's prison system to stop collecting DNA samples from inmates.  There are more than 44,000 inmates in Ohio correctional facilities.  Some are required by law to turn over a sample of their DNA -- samples which have solved decades-old cases. A federal lawsuit filed on behalf of Antoine Wilson, a convicted felon, could stop the collection of DNA. Wilson says he was threatened and forced to turn over his DNA while in custody. "We think it's unconstitutional under the 4th Amendment of the United States," David Singleton of the Prison Reform Advocacy Center said. That center contends that taking DNA samples is intrusive and should only be done if there's a strong belief the inmate is connected to other cases. [more ]
