Mayor's tort reform bill before D.C. Council

D.C. Mayor Tony Williams on Monday sent his medical malpractice reform legislation to City Council Chair Linda Cropp for formal introduction at Tuesday's legislative session, according to officials at the Medical Society of D.C., a trade group representing doctors in the District that has backed the mayor's proposal.The Health Care Liability Reform Act of 2004 would reform how health care liability claims are addressed within the system, including the introduction of a $250,000 cap on awards for non-economic damages in claims against doctors for medical negligence.
