CA. Senate panel OKs mascot ban - "Redskins" is Banned

With an overflow audience watching, including 15 people from Tulare Union High School, the Senate Education Committee Wednesday banned the use of the name "Redskins" as a school mascot in California. If the ban finally is enacted, Tulare Union would have to drop its "Redskin" mascot after Jan. 1, 2006, though the school could continue to use old athletic and band uniforms until they are replaced.
