Attorney wins blessing of Judiciary Committee, awaits confirmation by full Senate
The first Hispanic nominated to the New Jersey Supreme Court was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday as lawmakers offered lots of praise and asked only a few tough questions. Hispanic lawyers and lawmakers praised the nomination, saying it would help the state's 1.2 million Latinos -- about 14 percent of the state's population -- become full participants in every branch of government.
