Georgia To Issue Driver’s Licenses To Some Undocumented Immigrants

Undocumented immigrants who qualify for temporary work permits under the Obama administration’s deferred action directive will soon be allowed to get driver’s licenses in Georgia. Sam Olens, the state’s Republican attorney general, wrote in a letter to Governor Nathan Deal (R-GA), “While I do not agree with the actions of the President in issuing the directive, it has been implemented by the Department of Homeland Security, USCIS, and state law recognizes the approval of deferred action status as a basis for issuing a temporary driver’s license.” The Department of Homeland Security left the decision to give the eligible immigrants driver’s licenses and benefits to each state
