Mittens reportedly got 0 votes in 59 Philadelphia districts

WonkettetheGrio

In fifty-nine Philadelphia voting divisions, Mitt Romney received zero votes.

Fifty-nine. Zero. Italics.

Fox Nation posts this Philadelphia Inquirer article, leaving their commentariat to worry that maybe Obama totally vote-frauded the city, and Romney would have won if not for Obama’s grand scheme to totally eliminate Republicans from 3.5% of the total precincts in Philadelphia, a city he won with 85% of the vote.

Unfortunately for all who hope that this is the secret key to unlocking the vault of voter fraud, these results aren’t really suspicious so much as the result of virtually all-Democratic neighborhoods where the only registered Republicans are nonexistent (voter registration fraud, hm?).

Although voter registration lists, which often contain outdated information, show 12 Republicans live in the ward’s third division, The Inquirer was unable to find any of them by calling or visiting their homes.

Four of the registered Republicans no longer lived there; four others didn’t answer their doors. City Board of Elections registration data say a registered Republican used to live at 25th and York Streets, but none of the neighbors across the street Friday knew him. Cathy Santos, 56, founder of the National Alliance of Women Veterans, had one theory: “We ran him out of town!” she said and laughed.

[...]

Eighteen Republicans reportedly live in the nearby 15th Division, according to city registration records. The 15th has the distinction of pitching two straight Republican shutouts – zero votes for McCain in 2008, zero for Romney on Tuesday. Oh, and 13 other city divisions did the same thing in 2008 and 2012.

Veterans Administration Battles Backlog of Claims for Wounded Soldiers

DemocracyNow

On Veterans Day, we look at a major new investigation by journalist Aaron Glantz that questions the government’s commitment to soldiers struggling to re-enter civilian life. Called "Accuracy isn’t priority as VA battles disability claims backlog," the report reveals how thousands of veterans have been denied disability benefits as a result of errors by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Glantz tells the story of Navy veteran Hosea Roundtree, whose claim for disability compensation was denied by the VA despite Roundtree suffering flashbacks of a shelling he witnessed in Beirut while aboard a U.S. Navy ship in 1983. The VA has a duty to assist veterans in developing their facts and evidence to support their claims, but the department reprimanded one of its own employees for attempting to do just that for Roundtree. Jamie Fox lost her job in 2008 after she wrote a memo to her boss arguing that Roundtree’s disability benefits were being denied wrongfully. An internal VA document later showed the agency failed to perform its duty to assist in nearly 11,000 cases at the time, despite the VA acknowledging it makes mistakes on 14 percent of disability claims. We speak with Fox and Glantz, who is a reporter for the Bay Citizen, a part of the nonprofit Center for Investigative Reporting. He is also the author of three books, most recently, "The War Comes Home: Washington’s Battle Against America’s Veterans."

Argentine Judge Freezes Chevron's Assets to Pay $19 Billion Fine for Polluting the Amazon

CorpWatch

Adrian Elcuj Miranda, a judge in Buenos Aires, has ordered the seizure of Chevron’s assets in Argentina, to force the company to pay a $19 billion penalty for polluting the Amazon in Ecuador. The plaintiffs are seeking similar legal action in Brazil, Canada, Colombia and other countries.

Chevron – a Northern California-based oil and gas company – merged with another company named Texaco in 2001 whose actions are the basis of the lawsuit. Between 1964 and 1992 Texaco admitted to dumping more than 16 billion gallons of toxic “water of formation” into the streams and rivers of the Ecuadorean Amazon that were used by local inhabitants for their drinking water sickening indigenous tribespeople and farmers.

Some 900 open-air toxic waste pits still dot the area, where approximately 9,000 people are expected to contract cancer unless it is cleaned up, according to a study by Dr. Daniel Rourke, former of the Rand Corporation.

An initial lawsuit was filed by Ecuador’s indigenous communities in 1993. At the time the company asked for a trial in Ecuador to avoid a U.S. court battle. A second lawsuit was filed in 2003 by Fajardo and Luis Manza on behalf of 30,000 Ecuadoreans.

Racist White High School Students Sound off on Twitter: " About time we get this monkey out of office

Whptv

On the night of President Obama's re-election and in the days that followed, several high school age kids with Twitter accounts all over the US posted "racially" charged Tweets using profane language including the n-word and some even describe violent acts directed at the President.

Even a student at a local high school had a tweet publicly cited for its racist remarks by an online publication.

On social media, you are entitled to your opinion, and in most cases even if you have a Twitter handle, a name is displayed.  The name could be a fake name or the actual name of the user.  But when something a high school student says on Twitter conflicts with a Code of Conduct, then they could be held accountable.  And that's what is happening in these cases.

Nearly 400,000 People Call On Macy’s To Dump Donald Trump

ThinkProgress

A grassroots campaign for Macy’s to end their association with Donald Trump has caught fire. Nearly 400,000 people have added their name to a petition on Signon.org for Macy’s, which exclusively sells Trump’s clothing line and fragrance, to dump the controversial businessman.

Trump gained prominence during the 2012 election for relentlessly promoting the discredited conspiracy theory that Obama was not born in the United States. He vocally maintains that Obama’s birth certificate is a forgery.

On Tuesday, Trump tweeted that the election results were “a travesty, a total sham, a disgusting injustice” and “urged Americans to march on Washington.” He claims global warming is “a concept created by and for the Chinese to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” Trump also promotes dangerous conspiracy theories about vaccines.

Macy’s touts themselves as a “socially responsible” company. Nevertheless, they have continued to embrace their relationship with Trump and will prominently feature him in its holiday Television ads.

Puerto Ricans press US for state status

Roadblocks to 51st state

A simple majority in both houses of the US Congress need to approve the measure in order for US President Barack Obama to sign it into law.

Obama issued a memo in 2011 supporting Puerto Rico's right to self determination. Republicans added support for Puerto Rico becoming a state into their 2012 political platform.

But US Congressional aides say Puerto Rico's request will be met with silence. US media report that legislators are unhappy with the two-question format of last Tuesday's referendum, saying it does not make clear what the majority of Puerto Ricans want.

The first question asked if Puerto Rico should abolish its current status as a commonwealth. Fifty-two per cent of voters agreed.

The second question was intended for all voters to choose an alternate status: independence, free association, or a US state. In this case, 61 per cent of those who answered the question choose US state. But a larger number of ballots were cast by voters who chose one of the other options, or left the question blank.

Critics also say the two referendum questions should have been asked separately, during two different polls, and not during a national election.

US lawmakers, who opposed the US state option, addressed their concerns two years ago when the US Congress passed a bill authorising the Puerto Rican referendum.

US Congressman Luis Gutierez, who is of Puerto Rican decent, says the language used in the referendum was ambiguous. John Boehner, who is now the US Speaker of the House, voted against the measure.

But some researchers say the bigger problem is that the referendum does not historically fit with how the US chooses to create new states

Really about an affair? Questions About the Petraeus Resignation

One might have imagined, if asked to speculate, say, yesterday, a fair number of reason for Petraeus to resign at some point. Benghazi: the C.I.A.’s role was looking increasingly questionable, with other members of the Administration openly blaming bad intelligence for their misstatements afterward; a scandal involving some unknown C.I.A. or military misdeed; a true reckoning, involving our drone war (that last one could be useful, resignation or no). Some of those guesses attach to the current situation; and others may attach to anyone who has been as praised, and overpraised, as Petraeus has been. Some would be asked of any person in the job of C.I.A. director.

But an extramarital affair is, to say the least, a surprise, raising questions about whether some other element had been tangled up in the affair, or magnified or even more important than the affair. Was he or his security, or that of the C.I.A., compromised in some way by the affair? (James Bond is not the best standard by which to judge these matters. A more relevant British reference might be Profumo.) In addition to the blackmail issue, one imagines that he will at least be asked about where he might have been with classified material. NBC reported that there was an F.B.I. investigation involving Broadwell and precisely this issue, as it related to her access to his classified e-mail account. Did he give answers in the course of security-clearance checks that turned out to be lies? Was someone trying to destroy him? For anyone of his rank, one would ask if the affair involved a subordinate—and what was the timing, and did it extend to his tenure as an Army general; did it involve his command? (This is a week that saw deeply disturbing details come out in the sexual-misconduct case involving a different officer, Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair.) Although Broadwell is identified as a writer, she first met Petraeus, according to the preface to her book, at Harvard, where, after active duty in the military, she had “joined the Army Reserve and begun graduate studies with the intent of returning either to active duty or to the policy world.” As a journalist, she was embedded with his team in Afghanistan. They seem to have gone running together a great deal. (She has not yet commented on the allegations; her website was apparently taken down Friday evening.)

Matt Drudge = a white man practicing racism

TheHill

Dear Mr. Drudge:

I have written before that, whether I like it or not, you are the one of the most influential forces in modern media, possibly THE most influential single player. You tower above your peers in what you do. Despite my failed efforts, no liberal or Democrat has even tried to create a legitimate competitor to what you do. But with your influence comes power, and with power comes responsibility, and the Drudge Report in recent months has become inundated, and saturated and permeated with baiting stories about the president's race, and about blacks generally. These are beneath the standards you should set for yourself and your profession.

You should be, and I hope you will be, a better citizen and more worthy professional than is suggested by the sheer number of race-related and often race-baiting stories that you regularly banner on the Drudge Report.

Win in FLA Means Obama swept all battleground states: 332 - 206 electoral vote crush

politicalticker

President Barack Obama will narrowly win the presidential vote in Florida, CNN projected, based on updated vote totals provided by the counties to the state by Saturday’s noon deadline.

With the Sunshine State's results in – the last undecided state - CNN projects Obama's electoral vote total comes to 332, well above the 270 required to win the presidency. CNN projects Romney to finish with 206 electoral votes.

The state's 29 electoral votes have proved decisive in the past and were expected to be important this year.

But Obama ran the board on Election Day, and it was another heavily contested battleground, Ohio, that put Obama over the top.

Obama's narrow victory in Florida means he has swept all eight of the states CNN, along with other media outlets, rated as "toss-ups," where the vote was within reach of either candidate.

Iran warns US against airspace violation

Aljazeera

Iran has warned the United States that it will react strongly against any intrusion by Washington into its airspace, local media reported.

Sunday's warning comes 10 days after two Iranian warplanes shot at a US drone.

"Yes, we opened fire, and it was with warning shots. If they do it again they can expect an even stronger response," the Iranian Students News Agency quoted General Amir-Ali Hadjizadeh, head of the elite Revolutionary Guards air and space forces, as saying.

Hadjizadeh was reported as saying on Sunday: "This spy drone entered Iranian airspace and had to turn around because of the immediate reaction by fighters of the Revolutionary Guards".

On Friday, Ahmad Vahidi, Iranian defence minister, confirmed the incident, saying the drone had "entered the space over the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Persian Gulf area".

Iran claims that the drone violated its territory, while Washington insists the Predator was in the international airspace.

6 Palestinians dead in mounting conflict, Israel prepares to escalate attacks

Rt.com

The Israeli government is prepared to retaliate against recent attacks from Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday. Israelis and Palestinians are exchanging artillery and rocket fire, leaving six dead and dozens injured.

"The world needs to understand that Israel will not sit with arms crossed when faced by attempts to hurt us. And we are prepared to harshen the response," Netanyahu said during talks with his cabinet that were also broadcast on Israeli TV.

The conflict broke out after Palestinian militants fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli military jeep. Palestinian witnesses said that Gaza militants fired a rocket at an IDF jeep on the edge of the Gaza Strip's border, east of Gaza City.

Four IDF soldiers were injured in the attack, one critically, the Israeli Defense Ministry reported. The wounded soldier was airlifted to a hospital in the town of Be’er Sheva.

The attack sparked retaliatory artillery and air strikes by the IDF, killing six Palestinian civilians and injuring dozens more.

Gaza medical officials said all four Palestinians killed in the artillery fire were civilians between the ages of 16 and 18, and that children were among the wounded. The number of wounded has reached 40, according to a Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson.

The Gaza Strip responded to the attacks by firing rockets at southern Israel.

The Jerusalem Post reported that over 50 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel in the last 24 hours, 20 of which were launched on Sunday morning. The IDF confirmed that some of the rockets were intercepted by the country's Iron Dome air defense system.

Four Israeli civilians reportedly suffered mild injuries during the attacks.

Rap Genius: White Yale Graduates Seek a Hip-Hop Degree

NYTimes

IT started with confusion over a Cam’ron lyric.

In 2009, Tom Lehman, a computer programmer, was puzzled by the line, “80 holes in your shirt: there, your own Jamaican clothes” in the rap song “Family Ties.” What were “Jamaican clothes,” he wondered?

A friend from Yale, Mahbod Moghadam, guessed that the lyric referred to the tattered clothing worn by impoverished Jamaicans. That turned out not to be true, but it was enough to inspire Mr. Lehman to build Rap Genius, a Web site that seeks to decipher every lyric in hip-hop.

While rap lyric sites are not new, Rap Genius distinguished itself by adding a Wikipedia-esque twist, allowing anyone to annotate lyrics with words, photos and videos. More than 250,000 people have submitted explanations to date, with contributions vetted by 500 editors, many of them high school or college students.

The result is a mélange of decoded slang, interpretations of varying plausibility and dorky jokes that has struck a chord. The site draws two million unique visitors a month, according to comScore, an independent analytics firm, and last month Ben Horowitz, a well-known venture capitalist in Silicon Valley with a soft spot for hip-hop, announced he was investing $15 million in the site.

But the project has also been dogged by awkward questions about race and authenticity, including a recent dispute over conversations in a chat room that some call racist. Not helping matters is the sometimes-outlandish behavior of its three founders, Mr. Lehman, Mr. Moghadam and a third buddy from Yale, Ilan Zechory.

Rap Genius is run out of two penthouse apartments in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where the founders seem to fancy themselves as hip-hop personalities in their own right. NYTimes

White Woman Loses Job Over Racist facebook Assassination "joke" About Obama

2-year-old Denise Helms has won the scorn of the nation after leaving a Facebook status update where she referred to President Obama as "the nigger," and called for his assassination during his second term. For her ignorance, Helms lost her job at Cold Stone Creamery and earned the attention of the Secret Service. Though she admitted that the whole "assassination" part of her comment was harsh, she wasn't apologetic at all.

"I'm not saying like I would go do that or anything like that, by any means" she said. "But if it was to happen, I don't think I'd care one bit." She also denied that her use of the word "nigger" makes her racist, saying that she was only stating her opinion. But when asked if she associated the word with President Obama, she said yes. Apparently, in her warped mind, that makes sense.

Cold Stone Creamery store director Chris Kegle didn't take too kindly to her comments, so he fired Helms. A Secret Service agent from the Sacramento office reached out to her, saying that her comments will be reviewed.

The Lost Presidential Debate of 2012: Binders Full of Black Men, Tang-Colored White Boys, and Other Shit I Don’t Like

Gawker.com

BILL O'REILLY – "It's not a traditional America any more. And there are 50% of the voting public who want stuff. They want things. And who is going to give them things? President Obama…"

I'm black-folks-blushing at Rove, Limbaugh, O'Reilly and the FOXy crew lamenting the supposed loss of their country to lazy black and brown Americans in search of free "stuff." But in an hour or so, I assume these American patriots will be driven to their million-dollar homes to check on their stock shares and make sure the trust funds of their children's children's children are nice and supple, in this, the second reign of that racist, socialist, leftist revolutionary, President Barack Hussein Obama. When the wealthiest, most despicable Americans among us, lose, don't they always still find a way to win? Isn't the answer to that question what makes them (and us) so emotionally and morally sick? What would happen if we changed the questions we asked these Americans, our Presidential candidates, and ourselves? Might honest, probing, imaginative questions and memories nudge all of us to reckon with our painfully dishonest, unimaginative, socially unjust American lives? [MORE]

Justice for Alan Blueford (JAB) Rallies Against Police Brutality in Oakland

IndyBay

In 2012, Bay Area police have killed at least 12 Black and Brown people.

Only 1 officer has ever been convicted of killing a Black or Brown person; Johannes Mehserle, who killed Oscar Grant, served only 11 mos in prison and now wants to return to a law enforcement job.

Alan Blueford, an 18-year-old African American student from Skyline High School, was shot and killed by Oakland Police Officer Miguel Masso on May 6, 2012. The Blueford family and JAB coalition strongly condemn the DA's report and reject all attempts to cover up their son's murder. We demand Masso be fired and prosecuted,  and all racial profiling practices, including stop and frisk, be stopped immediately!

Alan's mother, Jeralynn Blueford, "This is a march in honor of my son and others that has suffered police brutality. We are for change not violence and vandalism."

Feds swoop down on white supremacist gang in Texas

FoxNews

Nearly three dozen alleged members of the white supremacist group Aryan Brotherhood of Texas have been charged in a 43-page federal indictment that includes crimes that could result in the death penalty, the Associated Press reports.

A federal grand jury returned three weeks ago the 17-count indictment, which was unsealed Friday.

According to Reuters, the 34 suspected white supremacist gang members, 14 of whom were arrested in a massive raid on Friday, face charges including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, assault and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. The arrests include four of the gang’s “generals.”

"Today's takedown represents a devastating blow to the leadership of the ABT," Assistant U.S. Attorney General Lanny Breuer said in announcing the major operation in Houston, Reuters reports.

"Brutal beatings, fire bombings, drug trafficking and murder are all part of ABT's standard operating procedure," Breuer said.

The Koch Brothers Turn On Chris Christie for his "Betrayal" and Warn Him About Setting Up Obamacare

PoliticsUsa and Wonkette

Most people understand that public servants, especially politicians, serve the people and part of their service includes following the law according to their oath of office, but Republicans reject the law when it contradicts ultra-conservative think tanks funded by wealthy industrialists Charles and David Koch. The Constitution is clear on how legislation becomes the law of the land, and one expects elected officials to reject special interest groups demands when they oppose established law, but over the past four years Republicans have demonstrated their disdain for the Constitution when neo-conservative think tanks have a different agenda.

The Affordable Care Act was hotly contested after it passed both houses of Congress and President Obama’s signature making it a legitimate law, and after it was upheld in the Supreme Court, one thought Republicans would finally accept that it cleared every legal challenge and begin implementing provisions at the state level to help 20-30 million Americans get access to affordable health care. One of the mainstays of Willard Romney’s campaign was his promise to repeal the ACA on his first day in office that not only displayed his ignorance of the repeal process, but also his lack of concern that millions of Americans would once again be at the mercy of the predatory health insurance industry and suffer from lack of healthcare. However, Romney’s defeat was not the end of the battle over the ACA and, as expected, Republican governors are doing the bidding of the Koch Brothers to frustrate the health law’s implementation.

The Koch Brothers think-tank, Americans for Prosperity, handed down a warning to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for not rejecting provisions in the ACA to submit health insurance exchange plans ahead of the health law’s full implementation. Republicans were already furious with Christie for praising President Obama’s rapid response to the super-storm Sandy that ravaged parts of the East Coast last week, and now the Koch Brothers are pressuring him to reject a New Jersey exchange bill to rebuff the ACA’s requirement before a November 16 cutoff date for states to set up health insurance exchanges. If states fail to set up the exchanges, the federal government does it for them and the provision gave individual states leeway to set up a healthcare marketplace according to their resident’s needs.
