Patrick J. Buchanan, the columnist and former presidential candidate, cut short an appearance at Western Michigan University on Thursday night after a protester doused him with salad dressing. "Stop the bigotry!" the demonstrator shouted as he threw the dressing. After he was hit, Mr. Buchanan cut short his question-and-answer session with the audience, saying, "Thank you all for coming, but I'm going to have to get my hair washed." The demonstrator, identified by the authorities only as a 24-year-old student at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, faces a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. The incident came two days after another well-known conservative, William Kristol, was struck by a pie in an appearance at a college in Indiana. [more] and [more]
