Oklahoma-- FBI Probe Initiated in Black Student's Death

The FBI has opened an investigation into whether the death of an East Central University football player from Texas was a hate crime. "We will present the facts to the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., after the investigation is completed," said Special Agent Gary Johnson, a spokesman for the FBI in Oklahoma. "They will decide if the case gets prosecuted." Eighteen-year-old Joseph Tusan of Arlington, Texas, died on September 19th in a hit-and-run incident following a racially charged argument. Anthony Douglas, vice president of the Oklahoma chapter of the National Association of Colored People, says Tusan's death wasn't a case of road rage. Douglas says it occurred over racial slurs and was motivated by race. Douglas asked the Department of Justice and the FBI Monday to investigate the case to determine whether the incident was a hate crime. Amman Reich is charged with first-degree murder and nine counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the incident. He's free on bond. [more ] and  [more ]
