Illinois Governor criticized on hiring of Latinos

The Blagojevich administration has not done enough to advance the hiring of Latinos in state government despite repeated complaints, a panel of Latino lawmakers charged Tuesday. The General Assembly's Latino caucus met with various heads of state agencies and grilled them for hours about the progress they had made in hiring more minorities and developing better procedures to serve them since a hearing last year. The caucus' complaints came after Latino lawmakers sharply criticized Gov. Rod Blagojevich, saying he unfairly demoted controversial state Fire Marshal Peter Vina.
