Former Pelosi Aid Michael Yaki Succeeds Edley at U.S. Commission on Civil Rights

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi recommended, and House Speaker Dennis Hastert subsequently appointed San Francisco attorney Michael Yaki to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. A partner in private practice since 2001, Yaki is a former Member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and past District director in Pelosi's San Francisco office. While a supervisor, Yaki chaired the board's Committee on Economic Development, Transportation and Telecommunications, and the first Citywide Summit on Children and Youth, among others. "Mr. Yaki brings a range of experience to the Commission that I anticipate will help set its agenda for the future," said Gerald Reynolds, Commission chairman. "I look forward to working with him." The Commission is comprised of four presidential appointees and four appointed by Congress. Commissioners serve six-year terms.
