Prop. 200 certification coming

As Monday's certification of Nov. 2's election results bring Proposition 200 one step closer to becoming law, key players are gearing up to continue the fight in court as government agencies scramble to prepare to implement the controversial voter-approved immigration measure. Unless a legal challenge blocks the measure from taking effect, Proposition 200 will become law when Gov. Janet Napolitano officially proclaims election results. That proclamation will occur sometime in the weeks following the secretary of state's certification of the statewide canvass Monday. Meanwhile, a Maricopa County Superior Court special action filed Thursday by some proponents of the measure seeks to expand its purview, adding to the confusion of what benefits the measure covers. State and local government agencies are still working to figure that out and to design new policies and training procedures in order to implement the new law. [more]
