The "Lemont`Injun" logo now history

The "Lemont Injuns" name has been retired, but those who have grown attached to the school mascot's traditions aren't going down without a fight. The Lemont High School District 210 board voted last month to choose a new mascot, saying it was time to change with the times and get rid of a nickname that is offensive to American Indians. But a group of alumni and community members have cried foul, organizing a petition drive to restore the school moniker to a town that annually sponsors Keepataw Days, which village officials say is named after a Potawatomi chief.
