Monroe grand jury set to probe police shooting of William Mack Henderson

A Ouachita Parish grand jury is scheduled to hear evidence January tenth in the police shooting death of William Mack Henderson. The 58-year-old Henderson was killed in a hail of gunfire after Monroe police said he refused repeated commands to drop a knife and chain and lunged toward them last August. A one-thousand page state police report on its investigation into the shooting will frame the case presented to the grand jury. The number of witnesses to be called has not been finalized. Some civilians, who claim to have witnessed the confrontation, have contradicted official police accounts of the incident. Five Monroe officers who fired weapons that day have been on paid administrative leave pending outcome of the investigation. District Attorney Jerry Jones, who has visited the site of the shooting and studied the investigation report, estimates the grand jury proceedings could take three-to-four days. [more]
